RECOGNITION OF DANIEL W. TAYLOR AS MANAGER OF PLANNING
DIVISION OF WHATCOM COUNTY PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT
SERVICES DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, Dan Taylor joined the Whatcom County Planning Department as
Director in December 1986; and
WHEREAS, he oversaw major land use planning projects such as the completion of
subarea zoning and a shoreline management plan; and
WHEREAS, he has struggled to administer and carry out the complex and sometimes
impossible mandates of Growth Management from its inception; and
WHEREAS, he endeavored to balance growth with land use protection and quality
of life for Whatcom County; and
WHEREAS, he directed and served the Planning Commission in its often
overwhelming and ensuing task; and
WHEREAS, he faithfully served the County Council through tempestuous times of
significant change; and
WHEREAS, he received the greatest respect and loyalty from those who worked with
and for him; and
WHEREAS, he endured the slings and arrows of his profession with a stout heart,
and laughed loudest when the going.got toughest; and
WHEREAS, he was an example of the highest degree of integrity and courage in his
profession.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council to
recognize the valued service rendered by Daniel W. Taylor to the County of Whatcom.
