Every odd - numbered year the County Council sets its salary schedule for three to four years from now, in order to avoid having voted to give itself a raise in pay. By law Council Members are prohibited from benefiting from any salary increase they have voted for during their present term of office. The amount set in this resolution is a maximum amount allowed; in no case, under the present Charter, may the Council earn more than 15 p —ent of the Executive's salary. CLERK'S RECOMMENDED MOTION (for final action): "I move that the Council approve of the resolution" COUNCIL ACTION TAKEN: 2/28/95: Approved with amended line 16 salary change to $14,500 Related File Numbers: Ordinance or Resolution Number (this item only): Res. 95 -016 crosalaryres 2/6/95 AB95 -075 SPONSORED BY: Consent PROPOSED BY: Clerk INTRODUCTION DATE: 2128195 1 RESOLUTION NO. 95 -016 2 ADOPTING A SALARY SCHEDULE FOR THE 3 WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL FOR 1998 AND 1999 4 WHEREAS, it is necessary to establish, several years in advance, the salaries of 5 the Whatcom County Council members; and 6 WHEREAS, the 35th and 54th amendments to the State Constitution prevent 7 Council Members from voting salary increases for themselves that will take effect during 8 their present terms of office; and 9 WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Charter prohibits any Council Member from 10 receiving a salary in excess of 15 percent of the County Executive's salary; and 11 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that 12 the maximum compensation to be paid to individual Whatcom County Council Members 13 shall be as indicated, provided that the salary paid to Council Members may not exceed 14 15 percent of the Executive's salary in any given year: 15 For the year 1998, the salary shall be $14,500 per Council Member; 16 For the year 1999, the salary shall be $14,500 per Council Member. 17 APPROVED this 28th day of February , 1995. 18 19 ATTEST: 20 21 Ramona Reeves, Zo ci Clerk 22 APPROVED as to form: 23 L 414� 24 Civil Deputy Pros.
