ORIGINATOR'S RECOMMENDED ACTION COMMITTEE ACTION TAKEN COUNCIL ACTION TAKEN 1/10/95: Introduced 1/24/95: Adopted 7 - 0 Related File Numbers: Oniinance or Resolution Number (this item only): Ord 95 -003 comm.ord 01/7,4/95 SPONSORED BY: Consent PROPOSED BY: Nelson INTRODUCTION DATE: 1 ORDINANCE NO. 95 -003 2 AMENDING WHATCOM COUNTY CODE SECTION 2.02.150, 3 REGARDING WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL STANDING COMMITTEES 4 WHEREAS, Council Members will soon need to reassign the membership of 5 standing committees; and 6 WHEREAS, Whatcom County Code Section 2.02.150 does not provide clear 7 definitions of the specific responsibilities of the various standing committees; and 8 WHEREAS, an equitable distribution of the responsibilities of the various 9 committees is more desirable than the current distribution (little -used committees should 10 be consolidated and the responsibilities of over - worked committees should be decreased); 11 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that 12 Whatcom County Code Section 2.02.150 is hereby amended as follows: 13 2.02.150 Membership on standing committees. L4 A. There shall be three members of all standing committees, membership to be 15 determined by majority roll call vote of the council. The committee members 16 shall be responsible for election of a chairperson and its internal organization. 17 B. The date and time of standing committee meetings shall be determined by the 18 chairperson of such committee and an agenda, including time and place of the 19 meeting, shall be prepared and disseminated at least one day prior to the 20 meeting. The committee meeting agenda shall further be posted 21 conspicuously within the Whatcom County Courthouse. 22 C. The following committees are established: 23 1. Finance and administrative services; 24 Areas of responsibility for this committee shall be budget, taxation and 25 purchasing issues, personnel policies and union negotiations. 26 2. Planning and development; 27 Areas of responsibility for this committee shall be zoning, 28 development, storm water, fire, septic and sewer issues. 29 3. Public works and capital projects; 30 Areas of responsibility for this committee shall be road construction Page 1 1 and vacations, and solid waste, new construction, remodeling, and 2 public utilities issues. 3 4. Natural resources. 4 Areas of responsibility for this committee shall be water, forestry, 5 agriculture, fishery and mineral issues. (Ord. 94 -007 Exh.
