cUMMARYSTATEMENT,
The request for a reduced speed limit from 40 -mph to 35 -mph was
made by adjoining property owners. Our Engineering Study and
evaluation was conducted and it was determined that the speed limit
should be reduced from 40 -mph to 35 -mph on the W. Laurel Road
between Northwest Drive and Longdin Road

SUBJECT: Speed Limit Ordinance l
The attached Ordinance will reduce the speed on the portion of the West Laurel Road between
Northwest Drive and Longdin Road from 40 -mph to 35 -mph. This request was made by adjoining
property owners and our Engineering Study confirmed that this area has developed with lot sized
parcels, occupied by residences on both sides of this portion of the West Laurel Road.
We accordingly recommend favorable consideration to reduce the speed to 35 -mph which is
uniform with the speed for similar residental areas on Northwest Drive and Paradise Road in the
vicinity.

3 ON CERTAIN COUNTY ROADS

5 WHEREAS, the Whatcom County council is authorized under RCW 46.61.415 to
6 establish speed limits on certain County roads; and
7
8 WHEREAS, an engineering study was conducted by the County Engineer's
9 Office; and,

11 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that the
12 speed limits be established as follows:

15 1) 40 NIPH a_ West T . _.re Ra ft - 35 MPH on West Laurel Road, from Northwest
16 Drive to Longdin Road, Located in Section 22, Township 39 North, Range 2
17 East, W.M.

20 BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the County Engineer is hereby directed to install
21 the appropriate signs and that the Whatcom County Sheriff and the Washington State Patrol be
22 notified by a copy of this ordinance.

24 Provisions of this ordinance are hereby added to Whatcom County Code, Section
25 10.04.050, and hereby amend Whatcom County Code, Section 10.04.060.
