AMENDING WHATCOM COUNTY CODE CHAPTER 2.75.030A,
DUTIES OF PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
& CREATING WATER RESOURCES FUND
WHEREAS, Whatcom County Code Chapter 2.75.030 outlines the duties of the Public
Works Department; and,
WHEREAS, the proposals to create a Water Resources Fund through which to administer
and coordinate the water related activities of the County entail the necessity of assigning
responsibility to the Public Works Department for initiating, performing, supervising, and
monitoring those water related activities; and,
WHEREAS, the duties of the Public Works Department that are presently set forth in county
law need to be expanded to include such activities and create this new fund;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that the Whatcom
County Code Chapter 2.75, Section 2.75.030A, Duties, is amended as follows:
2.75.030 Duties
A. The public works department shall be responsible for the planning,
engineering, construction and maintenance of roads, ferries, paths, trails, bridges, pits,
quarries, and other methods, structures, and appurtenances relating to the transportation
system within the county. In addition the department will be responsible for solid waste
programs, and the design, repair, construction and maintenance of vehicles and related
equipment, along with river improvement, dikes and other civil engineering projects as
directed. It will also administer and coordinate water resource related activities in the
county.
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that a new fund be created under the Public Works
Department entitled, "Water Resources Fund."
