ORDINANCE NO. 98 -043
AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING
WHATCOM COUNTY VOTING PRECINCTS
WHEREAS, state law mandates in RCW 29.04.050 that every voting precinct must be wholly
within a single congressional district, a single legislative district, and a single district of a county
legislative authority; and
WHEREAS, state law mandates in RCW 29.040.040 (3) that precincts in which voting machines
or electronic voting devices are used may contain as many as nine hundred registered voters; and,
WHEREAS, certain precincts should be combined because the number of active registered
voters is small and,
WHEREAS, annexations to cities of Whatcom County and special purpose districts divided
some precincts of Whatcom County requiring that they and some adjacent precinct boundaries be
redrawn;
WHEREAS, state law mandates in RCW 29.04.040 (2) that no precinct boundaries may be
changed during the period starting on the thirtieth day prior to the first day for candidates to file
for the .primary election and ending with the day of the general election and,
WHEREAS, the first day for candidates to file in person is July 27, 1998 and the precinct
boundaries must be. established by June 27, 1998 and time is needed for the necessary procedural
steps such as legislative authority approval, notification of voters, production of maps, and
notification to the Secretary of State.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED THAT:
Section 1.14 of the Whatcom County Code for Bellingham Precincts: Bellingham Precinct 81
be amended to read as set forth in the attached Exhibit "A" which is fully incorporated herein.

Beginning at the intersection of the centerline of Meridian Street and the center of Squalicum Creek;
thence northerly along the centerline of Meridian Street to its intersection with Interstate 5; thence
westerly along the centerline of Interstate 5 to its intersection with Northwest Avenue; thence
southeasterly along the centerline of Northwest Avenue to its intersection with Alderwood Avenue;
thence easterly along the centerline of Alderwood Avenue to its intersection with Cherrywood
Avenue; thence south along the centerline of Cherrywood Avenue to its intersection with
Cottonwood Avenue; thence east and southeasterly along the centerline of Cottonwood to its
intersection with Northwest Avenue; thence southeasterly along the centerline of Northwest Avenue
to the center of Squalicum Creek; thence. northeasterly along the center of Squalicutn Creek to the
point of beginning.
