SUBJECT. • Ordinance regarding establishing a 35 mph speed limit on the following County roads:
West Main Road from the Lynden City Limits west its entire length to Berthusen Road, approximately
0.50 miles, located in Section 24, Township 40 North, Range 2 East of W.M.
Berthusen Road from West Main Road to Loomis Trail Road, approximately 0.25 mile, located in
Sections 23 and 24, Township 40 North, Range 2 East of W.M.
Loomis Trail Road from Berthusen Road west for 0.25 mile, located in Sections 14 and 23, Township
40 North, Range 2 East of W.M..

1 ORDINANCE NO. 97 -005
2 AN ORDINANCE REGARDING ESTABLISHING SPEED LIMIT ON PORTIONS
3 OF WEST MAIN ROAD, BERTHUSEN ROAD AND LOOMIS TRAIL ROAD
4 WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council is authorized under RCW 46.61.415 to
5 establish speed limits on County roads; and
6 WHEREAS, a common route between Lynden and Custer has been established from
7 West Main Road to Loomis Trail Road via Berthusen Road; and
8 WHEREAS, an engineering study was conducted by the County Engineer's
9 office and it was determined that it is beneficial to set a continuous speed limit on common
10 routes within the County;
1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that the
12 speed limit on West Main Road, Berthusen Road and Loomis Trail Road be established as
13 follows:
14 West Main Road:
15 35 miles per hour from the Lynden City Limits West its entire length to
16 Berthusen Road approximately 0.50 miles; Located within Section 24, Township
17 40 North, Range 2 East of W.M.
18 Berthusen Road:
19 35 miles per hour from West Main Road to Loomis Trail Road, approximately 0.25
20 miles; Located within Sections 23 and 24, Township 40 North, Range 2 East of
21 W.M.
22 Loomis Trail Road:
23 35 miles per hour from Berthusen Road West for 0.25 miles; Located within Sections
24 14 and 23, Township 40 North, Range 2 East of W.M.
25 BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the County Engineer is hereby directed to install
26 the appropriate signs and that the Whatcom County Sheriff and the Washington State Patrol
'7 be notified by a copy of this ordinance.
