REQUESTING THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO AMEND THE ENDANGERED
SPECIES ACTIN CONSIDERATON OF THE SAFETY OF ALL UNITED STATES
CITIZENS
WHEREAS, the federal government provides state and local agencies with
funding to correct health and safety deficiencies, improve the condition of
substandard and /or inadequate services, and generally ensures that the lives of our
citizens are protected and preserved; and
WHEREAS, the Endangered Species Act, as written, does not consider the
safety of our citizens when determining the effects a proposed project may have on
a threatened or endangered species or their habitat.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that
the Endangered Species Act be amended by the United States Congress to consider
the safety of human beings when assessing the effects of proposed projects on
threatened or endangered species and their habitats.
