RESOLUTION NO. 99 -041
RESOLUTION URGING FEDERAL AGENCIES TO DELAY THE RE- OPENING OF THE
OLYMPIC PIPELINE
WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council, is entrusted with the health and safety of all
Whatcom County residents and;
WHEREAS, the recent pipeline explosion resulted in death and destruction of property, and;
WHEREAS, the cause of the pipeline rupture is not yet known.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council urges the
Office of Pipeline Safety, the National Transportation Safety Board, and Congress, to ensure that
the ruptured pipeline not resume operation until the cause of the tragedy is known and until there is
assurance that such an accident is unlikely in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council requests that all pipeline
companies with lines located in Whatcom County make available a county -wide, lot specific map
showing exactly where all major pipelines cross county owned properties.
