RESOLUTION NO. 99 -017
IN SUPPORT OF THE STAR TASK FORCE AND ITS WHATCOM COUNTY
DRUG FREE YOUTH PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the STAR (Straight Talk About Responsibility) Task Force was formed in 1989;
and
WHEREAS, the STAR Task Force is a non - profit organization comprised of local citizens,
business people, parents, and teens of Whatcom County; and
WHEREAS, the mission statement of the STAR Task Force is "Working in Whatcom County to
reduce drug and alcohol abuse "; and
WHEREAS, drug and alcohol use has more than doubled among teens in Whatcom County since
1992; and
WHEREAS, drug and alcohol use attributes to over seventy (70) percent of juvenile crime in
Whatcom County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE. IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council to support local
prevention efforts that will effectively curb drug and alcohol use among the youth of our community; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council
encourages all members of the community to actively support the STAR Task Force and its Whatcom
County Drug Free Youth Program.
