5 RESOLUTION NO. 97 -025
6 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF
7 THE CIVIC CENTER BUILDING

9 WHEREAS, various services and offices of the Whatcom County Health Department are
10 located at three separate sites; and,
11
12 WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council has determined it is in the best interest of the
13 citizens of Whatcom County to centralize County services in the civic center area by purchasing the
14 Civic Center Building; and,
15
16 WHEREAS, an independent appraisal of the value of this property has been obtained and
17 a fair price for the purchase of this property has been negotiated; and,
18
19 WHEREAS, on an interim basis, it is in the best interest of Whatcom County to finance the
20 building purchase utilizing an interf ind loan from the County Road Fund; and,
21
22 WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Whatcom County Council to issue general obligation
23 bonds to finance a portion of the purchase within eighteen months;
24
25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that the County
26 Executive is authorized on behalf of Whatcom County to purchase the Civic Center Building located
27 at 322 Commercial Street and adjacent properties, for $3,262,000.

29 FURTHER, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that
30 Whatcom County will pay such taxes, fees and miscellaneous closing costs as may be required by
31 the Purchase and Sale Agreement or by law.
