(Y/N) N Requested Date: Every odd - numbered year the County Council sets its salary schedule for three to four years into the future in order to avoid having voted to give itself a raise in pay. By law, Council Members are prohibited from benefiting from any salary increase they have. voted for during their present term of office. The amount set in this resolution is a proposed maximum amount allowed; in no case, under the present Charter, may the Council earn more than 15% of the County Executive's salary. Resolution #97- 004 Related File Numbers: Ordinance or Resolution Number (this item only): 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 '2 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 msalaryzes 1/21 {97 SPONSORED BY: Consent PROPOSED BY: Clerk of the Council INTRODUCTION DATE: 1128197 RESOLUTION NO. 97 -004 APPROVING A SALARY SCHEDULE FOR THE WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL FOR 2000 AND 2001 WHEREAS, it is necessary to establish, several years in advance, the salaries of the Whatcom County Council Members; and WHEREAS, the 35th and 54th amendments to the State Constitution prevent Council Members from voting salary increases for themselves that will take effect during their present terms of office; and WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Charter prohibits any Council Member from receiving a salary in excess of 15 percent of the County Executive's salary; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that the maximum compensation to be paid to individual Whatcom County Council Members shall be as indicated, provided that the salary paid to Council Members may not exceed 15 percent of the Executive's salary in any given year: For the year 2000, the salary shall not exceed $14,500 per Council Member; For the year 2001, the salary shall not exceed $14,500 per Council Member.
