RESOLUTION NO. 98 -026 6 SUPPORTING VOTER REGISTRATION LAW REFORM 7 8 9 WHEREAS, Federal and State laws mandate what information is required by the county 10 auditor in order to.place a voter registration applicant on the voter registration rolls, and 11 12 WHEREAS, the information required by the State includes an applicant's name, 13 complete residence address, date of birth, a declaration that the applicant is a citizen of the 14 United States, and a signature attesting to the truth of the information provided on the 15 application; and 16 17 WHEREAS, any other information supplied is considered ancillary and can not be used 18 as grounds for not registering an applicant to vote; and 19 20 WHEREAS, current voter registration laws do not require that applicants provide 21 identification verifying any of the information provided on the voter registration application; and 22 23 WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council believes an applicant should be required to 24 verify all information provided on an application in order to prevent duplicate or fraudulent voter 25 registrations. 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council unanimously supports voter registration law.reform to include mandates requiring proof of U.S. citizenship and residency upon application for voter registration.
