ORDINANCE NO. 2000 -032
AN EMERGENCY AMENDMENT TO THE 2000 WHATCOM COUNTY
BUDGET TO CREATE FUNDING FOR A LIFEGUARD POSITION AT
SAMISH PARK
WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council recognizes that large
numbers of county residents use the swimming area at Samish Park for
swimming during periods of hot weather; and
WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council is concerned about the
safety of swimmers at a popular swimming location on County property
without lifeguards; and
WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Parks and Recreation Department
does not have the funds in its current budget for lifeguard positions; and
WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council finds that funding a
lifeguard position(s) at Samish Park is beneficial for the protection of public
health and safety.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County
Council that the 2000 Whatcom County Budget is hereby amended by
adding $19,000 to the Parks and Recreation Departments budget for
summer lifeguards at Samish Park.
ADOPTED this 11 day of July, 2000.
