RECOMMENDED MOTION (for final action): COUNCIL ACTION TAKEN: 2000 - 303 8/812000: Approved 80, Brenner absent, Res. #2008039 Related File Numbers: Ordinance or Resolution Number (this item only): RES. * 200 - 03q MY OF BELLINGHAM RESOLUTION 2000 -28 ,.u: \11 a WITAT N a I I 111 1 JOINT RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BELLINGHAM AND WHATCOM COUNTY SUPPORTING THE WORK OF BELLINGHAM - WHATCOM COUNTY COMMISSION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. WHEREAS, domestic violence is a serious crime that affects people of all races, ages, income levels and sexes, and WHEREAS, domestic violence is the most frequently occurring and most unreported crime in the nation; and WHEREAS, in Washington State, 30% of all solved homicide cases are the result of domestic violence, and WHEREAS, domestic violence related offenses reported by Whatcom County law enforcement agencies totaled 1,456 in 1999; and WHEREAS, we believe that addressing domestic violence requires individuals and communities to look, take action and together make a difference, and WHEREAS, the Bellingham - Whatcom County Commission Against Domestic Violence was established by ordinance in 1998: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCILS OF THE CITY OF BELLINGHAM AND WHATCOM COUNTY: that we support the continued work of the Bellingham - Whatcom County Commission Against Domestic Violence and all the community members and agencies working together to assist in the implementation of the Domestic Violence Comprehensive Plan.
