ADS Facilities Management ADS Finance ADS Human Resources ADS Info Services Assessor Auditor Cooperative Extension Dstrict Court Executive Francine Kincaid Health Hearing Examiner Jail COUNCIL ACTION TAKEN. 2002-330 9/10/02: Approved 7-0, Related County Contract #: Res. #2002 -038 .revenue Parks Planning Prosecutor Public Works Sheri Superior Cana reenurer other Related File Numbers: Ordinance or Rergolution Number (this item): �F 2 - Gy SPONSORED BY: Consent PROPOSED BY: Executive INTRODUCTION DATE: 9/10/2002 RESOLUTION NO. 2002 -038 RESOLUTION IN COMMEMORATION OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 Whereas, on September 11, 2001, America was suddenly and brutally attacked by foreign terrorists, and; Whereas, these terrorists hijacked and destroyed four civilian aircraft, crashing two of them into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third into the Pentagon outside Washington, DC, and the fourth into a field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, and; Whereas, thousands of innocent Americans were killed and injured as a result of these attacks, including the passengers and crew of the four aircraft, workers in the World Trade Center and in the Pentagon, rescue workers, and bystanders, and; Whereas, these cowardly acts were by far the deadliest terrorist attacks ever launched against the United States, and, by targeting symbols of American strength and success, clearly were intended to intimidate our nation and weaken its resolve, and; Whereas, these horrific events have affected all Americans. It is important that we carry on with the regular activities of our lives. Terrorism cannot be allowed to break the spirit of the American people, and the best way to show these cowards that they have truly failed is for the people of the United States and their counties to stand tall and proud, Therefore be it resolved, that the Council and Executive of Whatcom County condemn the cowardly and deadly actions of these terrorists, and; Be it further resolved, that the Council and Executive support the President of the United States and the men and women of our armed forces as they defend against additional attacks, and find the perpetrators to bring them to justice, and; Be it still further resolved, that the Council and Executive recommend the citizens of Whatcom County show their continued support by giving blood at Puget Sound Blood Center. The attached resolution outlines the Council and Executive's continued condemnation of the terrorist acts. It further states our support for the President of the United States in the battle against terrorism and recommends that our citizens show their support through blood donations.
