SUMMARY STATEMENT:
This ordinance establishes the Whatcom County Low Income
Housing Fund, which will be dedicated to funding housing projects
or units that are affordable to very low - income persons.

ESTABLISHING A NEW FUND THE
WHATCOM COUNTY LOW INCOME HOUSING FUND
WHEREAS, RCW 36.22.178 directs the County Auditor to collect a $10.00 per
instrument recording surcharge to be used for low income housing; and,
WHEREAS, sixty percent of the revenue generated by this surcharge will be retained by
the County and be deposited into a fund that must be used by the County and its cities and towns
for funding housing projects or units that are affordable to very low - income persons.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that a new
fund is hereby established, titled the "Whatcom County Low Income Housing Fund." This new
fund shall be dedicated to funding housing projects that are affordable to very low- income
persons, pursuant to RCW 36.22.178.
ADOPTED this 10 day of December , 2002.
