ORDINANCE NO. 2002 -032
AMENDMENT NO. 6 OF THE 2002 BUDGET
WHEREAS, the 2002 budget was adopted November 13, 2001; and,
WHEREAS, changing circumstances require modifications to the approved 2002 budget;
and,
WHEREAS, the modifications to the budget have been assembled here for deliberation by
the Whatcom County Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that the 2002
Whatcom County Budget Ordinance #2001 -348 is hereby amended by adding the following
additional amounts to the budgets included therein:

I'm requesting that $478,000.00 be transferred from Conservation Future Fund
Balance, to cover the cost of purchasing the Olsen Estate Property from
Whatcom Land Trust for $429,500.00 and the Turner /Jaeger property for
$48,500.00.
It is the recommendation of the Whatcom County Parks and Recreation
Commission and Staff that we purchase these properties that are in the Lake
Whatcom Watershed.
This transaction will:
• Protect a substantial and critically located large block of land in the Lake
Whatcom Watershed
• Significantly reduce development and development potential in the watershed
• Provide a flagship example of City/County cooperation to protect Lake
Whatcom water quality.
• Create the potential for future recreational development in conjunction with
the Stimpson Family Nature Reserve.
