4 CALLING FOR ELECTION OF A CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION
5
6 WHEREAS, Whatcom County Home Rule Charter allows for a Charter Review
7 Commission to be elected at least every ten years; and
8
9 WHEREAS, Charter Section 8.11 states that the Commission shall consist of 15
10 persons, with an equal number or representatives from each Council District; and
11
12 WHEREAS, there shall be no filing fee nor shall there be a primary for persons seeking
13 the office of Charter Review Commissioner; and
14
15 WHEREAS the term of office shall be one year, and the member of the Commission
16 receiving the greatest number of votes shall convene the Commission; and
17
18 WHEREAS, the formation and operation of the Charter Review Commission must be in
19 conformance with the provisions of Article 8 of the Home Rule Charter; and
20
21 WHEREAS, in order to seek the election of Charter Review Commissioners in
22 November 2004 the Council must adopt this resolution and file it with the County Auditor;
23
24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that an
25 election of the Charter Review Commission is hereby ordered for November 2004; and
26
27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Council will budget for operating
28 costs expected for the 2005 term of the Charter Review Commission; and
29
30 BE IT FINAL611r OLVED that the Council will file a copy of this resolution with the
