The Whatcom County Sheriffs Office does not have a SWAT team trained and equipped to handle this type of emergency. It was decided for officer safety that the Bellingham Police Department's SWAT team would be called and utilized since they are the nearest properly trained and equipped unit to handle this type of armed subject.
