This ordinance changes the size of Whatcom County's Initiative or Referendum Petition to the size required of the Washington State Initiative and Referendum Petitions. ATTACHMENTS. ( ) Yes ( x ) NO Requested Date: SUMMAR YSTA TEMENT: The Whafcom County Code 1.080.606 B presently provides that the petition be not less and eight and one-hay-inches nor more titan II inches in width and not less than A inches nor more than 14 inches in length with a margin of one inch at the top for binding and a margin offtve eights inches on the left side for office use only. Petitions smaller titan 11 inches in width and 14 inches in length result in signatures on the petitions being difficult to read and the proposer/ ordinances on the back of the petitions in small print. The Whatcom County Code 1.080.060 D provides a form and style for Whatcom County Petitions that is different from the State Code and are format for the State of Washington Code meets the requirements for Whatcom County, It is easier for the petitioners to have consistent rules regarding the size and farm and style of the petitions for Whatcom County and fire State of Washington. Each petition, at the time of circulating, signing and registering, shall consist of not more than one sheet and not more than 20 signatures on numbered lines on each sheet with the prescribed title, except the mini - initiative which does not require a ballot title, and a full, true and correct copy of the proposed measure referred to therein printed, which may be printed on the reverse side. B. C. The auditor shall give the proposed initiative or referendum, a number which shall thereafter be the identifying number for the measure and refer it to the prosecuting attorney. The auditor, when assigning numbers to initiatives, referendums and mini - initiatives, shall use a separate sequential series for each category. No number shall be reissued once used. D. Petition forms for submission to the people for their approval or rejection at the next ensuing general election, shall be substantially in the following form: WARNING: Every person who signs this petition with any other than his true name, or who knowingly signs more than one of these petitions, or who signs this petition when he is not a legal voter, or who makes herein any false statements, shall be punished by fine or imprisonment or both.
