The County Engineer' s office performed a review of certain County roads recently constructed or
impacted through construction activities, and found that conditions warrant the establishment of 25
mile-per-hour speed limit on West Illinois Street and reduce the 50 mile-per-hour speed limit to 35 miles-
per-hour on East Badger Road.

6 ESTABLISHMENT OF SPEED LIMITS ON CERTAIN COUNTY ROADS

8 WHEREAS , the Whatcom County Council is authorized under RCW to
9 establish speed limits on certain County roads ; and
10
11 WHEREAS , a review was conducted by the County Engineer' s office of East Badger
12 Road that was reduced in length by a Washington State Route 9 realignment project ; and
13
14 WHEREAS , the City of Bellingham and Whatcom County has worked together to
15 construct a new road, West Illinois Street; and
16
17 WHEREAS , The County Engineer has determined that it is necessary to formally
18 establish a speed limit for these various roads ;
19
20 NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that speed .
21 limit be established as follows :

23 25 mph on West Illinois Street from the Bellingham City limits to Marine
24 Drive , in Section 24 , Township 38 North, Range 02 East, W . M .
25
26 Reduce the 50 mph speed limit to 35 mph on East Badger Road from State
27 Route 9 to North Telegraph Road, in Sections 10 and 15 , Township 40 North,
28 04 East, W . M .

30 BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the County Engineer is hereby directed to post the
31 appropriate signs and that the Whatcom County Sheriff and the Washington State Patrol be
32 notified by a copy of this ordinance .
