This resolution appoints Deputy County Auditor Debbie Adelstein as the Whatcom County Auditor for the period of time between when Shirley Forslof, the current County Auditor, leaves office on December 30, 2011 , until the Oath of Office on January 9, 2012, when Debbie Adelstein will be sworn in as the new County Auditor. COMMITTEE ACTION: COUNCIL ACTION: 12 / 06 / 2011 : Council Approved 7 -0 Res . 2011 -043 Related County Contract #: Related File Numbers: Ordinance or Resolution Number: Res . 2011 -043 Please Note: Once adopted and signed, ordinances and resolutions are available for viewing and printing on the County 's website at: www. co. whatcom. wa. us/council. 1 SPONSORED BY : Consent 2 PROPOSED BY : Council 3 4 RESOLUTION NO2011 -043 5 REGARDING COUNTY COUNCIL APPOINTMENT OF AN INTERIM COUNTY AUDITOR 6 7 WHEREAS, under the provisions of the Whatcom County Home Rule Charter, Section 3 . 50 , 8 the office of the Auditor of the County is an elective office ; and 9 10 WHEREAS, under Section 3 . 51 of the Charter, the term of office for the person elected as 11 Auditor is four years ; and 12 13 WHEREAS, the current Auditor, Shirley Forslof, was last elected to hold the office of Auditor 14 in the general election held in November 2007 ; and 15 16 WHEREAS, the current Auditor, Shirley Forslof, intends to leave office on December 30, 17 2011 ; and 18 19 WHEREAS , Shirley Forslof's resignation from the office of Auditor of Whatcom County will 20 create a vacancy in that office until the Auditor- elect takes the Oath of Office on January 9 , 2012 ; 21 and 22 23 WHEREAS, under the provisions of Section 4 . 50 of the Charter, the Whatcom County 24 Council is empowered to fill by appointment the vacancy caused by the Shirley Forslof's 25 resignation ; and 26 27 WHEREAS, Section 4 . 50 of the Charter states the Council shall fill such vacancy as it 28 deems appropriate , and further states that the appointment shall be by a majority of the Council ; 29 and 30 31 WHEREAS , Debbie Adelstein is the Auditor- elect and will take the Oath of Office for County 32 Auditor on January 9 , 2012 ; and 33 34 WHEREAS , Debbie Adelstein is currently the Deputy County Auditor; 35 36 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that Debbie 37 Adelstein is appointed to the office of Whatcom County Auditor, with all the powers and duties 38 attendant thereto as provided in Section 3 . 52 of the Charter and Chapter 36 . 22 of the Revised 39 Code of Washington , effective immediately upon the resignation of Shirley Forslof and until Debbie 40 AdelsteirkMktgithe ,Qath of Office on January 9 , 2012 . 41 ``' G0LiA !
