Whatcom Watershed PROPOSED BY: Brenner SPONSORED BY: Consent INTRODUCED : May 10, 2011 RESOLUTION NO, 2011 -016 REGARDING WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL'S INTENTION TO ENSURE ADEQUATE DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS IN THE LAKE WHATCOM WATERSHED WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council has passed moratoriums in order to protect the Lake Whatcom Watershed until the county has development standards in place that adequately protect the watershed , and WHEREAS, the County Executive is working on development standards that will adequately protect the watershed , and WHEREAS, those draft standards will be sent to the Whatcom County Planning Commission some time this summer, and WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council will receive recommendations from the planning commission some time this year regarding the recommended changes to development standards in the watershed , and WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council will be able to discuss, deliberate , and pass development standards for the Lake Whatcom Watershed before the summer of 2012 that will adequately protect the watershed . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that the Council intends that changes to the Whatcom County Official Zoning Code that would allow any subdivision of land of less than five acres in the Lake Whatcom watershed will not become effective until June 21 , 2012 , or until the Council adopts more protective developmeOlsmn} lards as discussed with the Department of Ecology by the County Execu`�yce4V lohic %itSviirst .
