A discussion of a proposed resolution with the City of Bellingham and the Lake Whatcom Water&Sewer District that would declare the entities
commitments to protecting Lake Whatcom and set milestones to reach for in the next few years. This was discussed at the 2/3/14 Joint Lake
Whatcom Policy Group,and discussion.needs to take place soon to complete it by the proposed March 2014 Joint Lake Whatcom meeting between
the three entities.

RESOLUTION NO. 2014-020
JOINT RESOLUTION OF BELLINGHAM CITY COUNCIL, WHATCOM COUNTY
COUNCIL, AND LAKE WHATCOM WATER AND SEWER DISTRICT COMMISSIONERS
INVITING THE SUDDEN VALLEY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION TO SEND A
REPRESENTATIVE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE LAKE WHATCOM POLICY GROUP
WHEREAS, Lake Whatcom is the drinking water source for approximately 100,000
Whatcom County residents, including the residents of Sudden Valley; and
WHEREAS, Whatcom County, the City of Bellingham and the Lake Whatcom Water
and Sewer District have all established policy declaring their commitment to jointly protect
and manage Lake Whatcom; and
WHEREAS, in order to improve communication between the governing bodies and
administrative staff, Whatcom County, the City of Bellingham, and the Lake Whatcom Water
and Sewer District formed the Lake Whatcom Policy Group in 2010; and
WHEREAS, the Lake Whatcom Policy Group is comprised of two members each from
the City and County Councils and one member from the Lake Whatcom Water and Sewer
District Board of Commissioners; and
WHEREAS, the Sudden Valley Community Association plays an integral part in
achieving needed reductions in pollution, is currently participating in staff team work
sessions, and has been a long-term participant in activities needed to protect the Lake.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that:
1. The Sudden Valley Community Association is hereby invited to participate as a
member of the Lake Whatcom Policy Group.
2. The Sudden Valley Community Association Board of Directors may select one
representative to participate in Lake Whatcom Policy Group activities.
