To comply with RCW 46. 61. 415, it is found necessary and expedient to modify two school zones because of a
new flashing light at one location and to be in compliance with a light already installed at another location.

ORDINANCE NO . 2012-023
TO AMEND SPEED LIMITS ON CERTAIN COUNTY ROADS
WHEREAS , the Whatcom County Council is authorized under RCW 46 . 61 .415 to
establish speed limits on certain County roads ; and
WHEREAS , Ordinance 00-057 and 08-032 established these school zones for 20 mph
"When Children Are Present" ; and
WHEREAS , the Yew Street Road school zone will be updated with new flashing lights
and Cable Street school zone will be brought into compliance; and
WHEREAS , the lights will flash just prior and during the start and during and just
after the release of school ,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED that a speed limit be set and posted at 20
miles per hour "When Flashing " at the following locations :
On Yew Street Road, from 300 feet north to 1000 feet south of the access for
Wade King Elementary School at 2155 Yew Street Road in Section 4 , Township
37 North, Range 03 East, W . M . and
On Cable Street from Lakeview Street to Austin Street in Section 27 , Township 38
North, Range 03 East, W . M .
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the County Engineer is hereby directed to post the
appropriate signs and that the Whatcom County Sheriff and the Washington State Patrol be
notified by a copy of this ordinance .
Provisions of this ordinance are hereby added to Whatcom County Code, Section
